Assam Chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma recently said not all will get tickets this time for after the delimitation exercise there is a surge in the number of constituencies of scheduled caste and scheduled tribe seats. BJP is looking to do a hattrick in Assam.
The delimitation exercise carried out in 2023 has dissected the political landscape of Assam and political boundaries have changed. The 2026 assembly elections will be on redrawn assembly segments. Assembly seats are rechristened.
Number of Assembly seats retained at 126. Nabin while addressing the state executive meeting said, " We have seen how our lands were encroached by illegal immigrants, how our rights were taken away. Just for the sake of vote bank these people who were in power were mute spectators."
He added, " People trusted BJP and NDA and we started a drive against illegal immigrants and we are getting the support and cooperation from the people".
State President of BJP Dilip Saikia in the state executive meeting said, " Congress has done politics of religious appeasement. The BJP has reclaimed 1.29 lakh bigha of land in the eviction."
Mrinal Saikia, BJP said, “This will be the last state executive before election. We are targeting over 100 seats.”
BJP’s Rajya Sabha MP Rameswar Teli said, “We are targeting to win 109 seats. We have strengthened our booths and there is a saying "if you will booths you win seats.”
Assam’s Finance minister Ajanta Neog said, “Given the work done by the Centre and state government in the last four and half years, we are sure our performance will be better than last elections.”
Presently the BJP has 64 MLAs, while its allies — Asom Gana Parishad, United People’s Party Liberal and Bodoland People’s Front — have nine, seven and three legislators, respectively.
