Initially, the BJP aimed to complete the state presidents' elections by the end of January, with the national president election scheduled for February. However, the party's focus on the Delhi assembly elections has contributed to the delay.
As per BJP's constitution, at least half of the state presidents must be elected before the national president election can proceed. Currently, BJP has completed the state president elections in 11 out of 36 states and Union Territories. The election process is ongoing in other states, with several re-elections and new appointments taking place.
The election of district presidents has been completed in states like Andhra Pradesh, Bihar, Himachal Pradesh, and others, but the process in Uttarakhand and a few other states will only conclude by the end of February. BJP leaders are optimistic that by February end, state president elections will be completed in half of the states, paving the way for the election of the national president in March.
