BJP names may figure in 2G spectrum report

Sibal maintains that since Opposition is refusing to listen, government is left with no option but to go to public directly with facts.

NEW DELHI: As opposition refuses to relent on its demand for JPC into the 2G scam, government has decided to strike an aggressive note by deciding to make startling revelations about the entire gamut of telecom policy since 2000 including beneficiaries during NDA regime.

It is believed names of some senior BJP functionaries might come out as beneficiaries during the NDA rule.

Telecom minister Kapil Sibal on Thursday said, "In the next few days we will go to public with all the facts about telecom policy since 2000. We will talk about revenue-sharing policy, 10th Plan document on telecom and how country has gained or lost."

Sibal maintains that since Opposition is refusing to listen, government is left with no option but to go to public directly with facts. Making it clear that government is not going to change its stance on the demand for JPC, Sibal said as telecom minister he has already managed to do things which JPC would have asked him. For instance, telecom companies have volunatarily paid Rs 93 crore out of Rs 219 crore that is outstanding from them for holding extra spectrum.

Sibal said, "Government has come down several notches. We agreed for multi-agency probe along with PAC. Then we agreed for special session and discussion on JPC but Opposition is not relenting. Truth has to come out. I see no reason why there should be JPC."
