NEW DELHI: A demand for removing ban on non-iodised salt was made by a BJP member in the Lok Sabha today who insisted that endocrine system of people in the country was getting destroyed by such an order.

Raising the issue during Zero Hour, Shobha Karandlaje said goitre is formed due to deficiency of iodine.

She said that intake of only iodised salt creates imbalance in human body as everyone does not have an iodine deficiency.

"It is not understood why iodine is being given to every individual," she said drawing instant support from her party colleague S S Ahluwalia and BJD's Tathagata Satpathy over her demand.
