NEW DELHI: The BJP today asked the Election Commission to order an enquiry into what it alleged was unauthorised deletion of valid voters from electoral rolls in the ongoing Uttar Pradesh assembly polls.

A party delegation headed by Union minister Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi submitted a memorandum to the EC and urged it to ensure that all voters with valid electoral photo identity cards (EPICs) are allowed to vote in the next and last two phases of the elections.

"The BJP has received complaint from almost every assembly constituency that holders of valid EPIC cards were turned away (from polling booths) as their names were deleted without following the due process laid down by laws and rules prescribed by the EC," the memorandum said.

The delegation, which included Sudhanshu Trivedi, Balbir Punj, Sambit Patra and Om Pathak, asked the EC to fix responsibility and prosecute the responsible officials.
