Kolkata: West Bengal BJP State President Sukanta Majumdar on Thursday filed a petition against Trinamool National General Secretary Abhishek Banerjee on his 'shoot in the head' remark following the ‘Nabanna Chalo’ campaign in Kolkata .

Majumdar today filed an application before Chief Metropolitan Magistrate court in Kolkata, seeking direction to the police to register his complaint against Trinamool Congress MP Abhishek Banerjee for his comment on shooting people indulging in violence.

BJP State president Sukanta Majumdar alleged that the police had refused to register the complaint against Abhishek Banerjee.


Majumdar said he was forced to move the court today against Banerjee for his comments. "We tried to lodge a complaint against Banerjee but police did not register the complaint. So, we decided to move court against Abhishek Banerjee for the comments made by him. The Public Prosecutor with his team reached the court uninvited and tried to prevent us."

Banerjee, who had visited an injured senior police official a day after the Nabanna march, had claimed police showed great restraint and had he (Banerjee) been there, he would have shot them in their head. Kolkata Police senior police official Debjit Chattopadhyay was seriously injured during the BJP’s ‘Nabanna Chalo Abhijaan’ march. He was admitted at the SSKM Hospital in Kolkata with a serious hand injury. Trinamool Congress MP Abhishek Banerjee had visited the injured Debjit Chattpadhyay at the hospital. Later, Chattopadhyay underwent a surgery.

While speaking to the media, Banerjee had said, “I salute you Debjit Chattopadhyay and Kolkata police for showing such restraint. If I were you and there was such brutality against the police in front of me, I would have shot them in the head,” he added.
These comments created a huge furore in the political circles and BJP's national Fact-finding team also criticized him.
