PATNA: BJP MLA Bhupendra Narayan Singh died of a heart attack at a private hospital in Delhi last night.

Chief Minister Nitish Kumar condoled the death of the MLA from Goriakothi in Siwan district and announced a state funeral for him.

Bihar Legislative Assembly mourned the death of the sitting member and the House was adjourned for the day after a condolence speech by Speaker Uday Narayan Choudhary.

Singh, 77, is survived by wife and two sons. He was suffering from kidney failure and was undergoing treatment at a private hospital in the national capital for the past three months. He died of heart failure last night.

The CM in his condolence message described the MLA, popularly known as "Chunu Babu", as a sensitive legislator.

He prayed to the almighty to provide strength to his bereaved family to bear the loss, according to a statement issued by the Chief Minister's Office.

The Speaker of the Legislative Assembly asked members to observe one minute silence. After paying respect to the departed leader, the Speaker adjourned the House for the day.

BJP leaders Sushil Kumar Modi and Nand Kishore Yadav condoled the MLA's death.
