BJP MLA of Duliajan constituency Terash Gowalla has resigned

Terash Gowalla has sent a letter to chief minister, Sarbananda Sonowal where he stated that he has resigned.

GUWAHATI: Hinting at growing dissatisfaction in the ruling BJP in Assam, BJP MLA of Duliajan constituency Terash Gowalla has resigned.

Gowalla has sent a letter to chief minister, Sarbananda Sonowal where he stated that he has resigned.

He told ET, “I have sent a letter to chief minister who is the leader of legislature party. I feel that I am not doing justice to my constituency and I am not able to work.”


Gowalla is a former student leader. A senior BJP who did not want to be named said, “Gowalla is miffed for not being appointed chairperson of public sector unit Assam Gas Company Limited (AGCL). He was aspiring to be the chairman.”

On Monday state government has appointed Sadiya BJP MLA, Bolin Chetia as the chairperson of AGCL. The government after more than two years in power gave appointments in several state government run boards and public sector units.

The appointments approved on Monday by the chief minister included names of several BJP legislators along with members from its alliance partners, Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) and Bodoland People’s Front (BPF) .

The MLAs, appointed as chairpersons of different corporations, have been given rank and status of either Cabinet Minister or Minister of State.

Assam BJP president Ranjit Kumar Dass said, “I came to know about Gowalla’s resignation through social media. Officially I do not know about this.”
