JAIPUR: BJP MLA Diya Kumari was today named the brand ambassador for 'Save the girl child' campaign run by the state medical and health department under the National Rural Health Mission ( NRHM).

An MoU to this effect was signed by her along with Health Minister Rajendra Singh Rathore in the presence of MoS for Food and Civil Supply Hem Singh Bhadana and Principal Secretary Medical and Health Deepak Upreti, according to an official release.

The release quoted Kumari, who represents the Sawaimadhopur constituency, as saying that she will work towards creating awareness for saving the girl child.

Pointing out at the prevalence of female foeticide in educated families also, she said the problem was alarming and needed to be controlled.

Rathore said the practice of female foeticide was creating a gap in sex-ratio in the state and said he hoped that the campaign will create awareness to eradicate the problem.
