BJP MLA draws dangerous castiest parallel between Sairat movie and Karjat gang rape case
At a time when the whole state is shocked by the gruesome gang rape and murder of a 15 year old girl in Karjat, a BJP MLA from Mumbai has made ‘castiest’ comments that are bound to create a controversy. Manisha Chaudhari, Dahisar MLA on Tuesday claimed that the rising rape incident was due to movies like ‘ Sairat’.

Emerging out of a heated debate in the Maharashtra legislature over the gruesome gangrape of the 15 year old girl in Karjat, Chaudhari first said that rapists should have their hands chopped. She later on went to blame ‘Sairat’ for the rape incident claiming that it was spoiling children. “The movie is spoiling children; this movie needs to be banned to prevent such incidents.”said Chaudhari.

Chaudhari’s statement is bound to create a controversy as the ‘Sairat’ movie is about a poor boy from a lower caste family falling in love with an upper caste rich girl. The BJP MLA has tried to draw a dangerous parallel with the Karjat gangrape as the accussed in the case are those from the lower caste and the victim is from the Maratha community.
