BJP MLA from Madhya Pradesh, Champalal Devda, has been booked by the police for slapping a police constable on duty. The incident was recorded on a CCTV camera installed inside the police station at Udaynagar in Dewas district.

The episode took place on Thursday night when constable Santosh Ivanti tried to question the nephew of MLA Champalal, who had reportedly snatched a water bottle from a person present inside the police station. Santosh was thrashed by the MLA after his nephew told him about the incident. The police station was stormed by the supporters of the legislator who looked on as Champalal slapped the constable repeatedly.

The footage shows the MLA slapping Santosh twice while he stands face down and hands behind his back.

A case was registered against the MLA and his supporters under IPC sections 353 (preventing a government servant from discharging his duty), 332 (assaulting public servant) and other relevant offences, Udaynagar police station in-charge Shiv Raghuwanshi said.
