BJP may make G20 succuess a key issue in upcoming state and Lok Sabha poll
India's success in securing consensus at the G20 meeting has been hailed as a significant achievement for Prime Minister Narendra Modi's government. The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) sees it as a key element for upcoming elections. Opposition leade...

The BJP has consistently touted the elevation of India's profile under PM Modi as a significant achievement. The success of the G20 summit further strengthens this claim, potentially making it a key element in upcoming state elections and the 2024 Lok Sabha polls.
Notably, the consensus achieved, even on the most intricate aspects of the Declaration, including the Russia-Ukraine conflict, has earned praise from opposition leaders. Congress MP and former diplomat Shashi Tharoor acknowledged the accomplishment, attributing it mainly to Amitabh Kant, India's G20 sherpa. "Well done Amitabh Kant. Looks like the IFS lost an ace diplomat when you opted for the IAS... A proud moment for India at G20!" he shared.
Tharoor also commended the event's management, highlighting that India's G20 presidency transformed it into a "people's G20" with over 200 events held in 58 cities.
Sources have revealed that the G20 joint statement uses the term "war in Ukraine" rather than "war against Ukraine," signifying a significant shift in language compared to the Bali Declaration last year. It is expected that the government will provide a comprehensive presentation on the "successful summit" during the upcoming special session of Parliament.
Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Defense Minister Rajnath Singh, and BJP Chief JP Nadda enthusiastically lauded the government's diplomatic triumph, suggesting the possibility of the G20 Leaders' New Delhi Declaration becoming a pivotal campaign point.
"Uniting everyone on the path to achieving the singularly significant goal of making the world a better place, the summit leaves an indelible victory mark for every citizen of our country, who believes in the greatness of our benevolent cultural values," stated Amit Shah.
Rajnath Singh asserted that India's G20 presidency, guided by Modi's visionary leadership, had made an indelible mark on the global stage. "The consensus reached during the G20 summit marks a historic milestone in bridging the global trust deficit and cultivating global trust and confidence," he emphasized.
Nadda described India's presidency's success as "colossal" and lauded Modi for emerging as a "voice for the Global South." He highlighted that, even amid significant geopolitical divisions, nations can collaborate for a better future for the planet and its people.
India's remarkable diplomatic achievement at the G20 meeting has not only earned praise from within the ruling party but also garnered recognition from across the political spectrum, solidifying its position on the global stage.
