BJP may expand Assam cabinet tomorrow

The BJP has seven slots in the council. The council can have a maximum of 19 ministers.

Preparations are on for the swearing-in ceremony of six ministers, including four from the BJP and two others — one each from alliance partners, Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) and Bodoland Peoples’ Front (BPF).
The BJP-led government, which will complete two years in office soon, will expand its cabinet for the first time on Thursday.

Both AGP and BPF are demanding two posts each in the council.


The BJP has seven slots in the council. The council can have a maximum of 19 ministers.

A senior BJP leader who did not want to be named, told ET,"BJP MLAs, including Siddhartha Bhattacharyya, Sum Ronghang, Tapan Gogoi and Piyush Hazarika are likely to be sworn in. AGP leader Phani Bhushan Choudhury and Chandan Brahma of BPF are likely to included in the ministry."
