BJP makes big inroads in Manipur, Congress likely retain Imphal Municipal Council
GUWAHATI: With Assam under its belt, BJP has made massive inroads in Manipur. In the civic polls of Imphal Municipal Council ( IMC) election, BJP has won 10 out of 27 seats.

Ruling Congress has won 12 seats and is likely to form the council with the support of Independents. Independents have won five seats.

In council polls in 2011, BJP had won only one seat. In 2011, congress had 13 seats.

Himanta Biswa Sarma, Assam minister and convener of northeast democratic alliance (NEDA), the anti congress platform campaigned for Saffron party in Manipur.

Saffron party is having high hopes for the Manipur assembly polls slated to be held in 2017. The civic polls were overshadowed by the ongoing agitation demanding introduction of Inner Line Permit (ILP) in Manipur.
