NEW DELHI: After changes in the Union Council of Ministers, the BJP organisational set-up may see some rejig. Party chief Amit Shah may induct new faces and reallocate responsibilities to some central office-bearers. BJP national secretaries Srikant Sharma, SN Singh and Mahendra Singh are ministers in the UP government and going by the single post norm, they could be replaced from their party positions.

Performance would be the main criteria for Shah while taking a call on such matters, a party insider said. However, even with vacancies in the central office-bearer posts, Shah has been comfortable working with his smaller team of general secretaries during campaigns, election strategising and coordinating with state units.

“Some central office-bearers may be given new responsibilities or asked to hand over charge of some assignments to another leader soon,” a senior BJP leader said. Others were evasive about any likely inductions and maintained there is speculation each time there is a reshuffle.

Most of the BJP general secretaries have performed well in the past few months and have more or less succeeded in the tasks assigned to them. Shah closely works on projects at hand — be it elections or reaching out to leaders from other parties — and party office-bearers have mostly confined to following his directions.
