MUMBAI: BJP has not come to power to stake claim to red beacon cars, but to propel Maharashtra to new heights of development, state finance minister Sudhir Mungantiwar said.

"Our government is for the common man and we are working towards their welfare. Our government is committed to move in the direction of development taking along people of every strata with us," Mungantiwar said at 'Newsmakers Achievers Award' function last evening.

"We (BJP leaders) have not come to power to get red beacon cars, but to fulfill the aspirations of those martyrs, who have laid lives for the independence of the state," he added.

Eminent personalities from various walks of life were felicitated during the function.

Mungantiwar received the best performing politician for the year award.

Besides Mungantiwar, writer Daya Prakash Sinha, former Chief Information Commissioner and RTI activist Shailesh Gandhi and veteran Bollywood actor Dalip Tahil were awarded the Lifetime Achievement Award.

Special Public Prosecutor Ujjwal Nikam received the Best Lawyer Award and Dr Sunita Dave was presented the Best Doctor award.

The award for best architect was bagged by Arch Vivek Bhole while Sandhya Purecha received the best Classical Dancer award.

Sunil Grover received the best actor in a comic role for television and Neeti Mohan won the Best Singer award.

Sai Tamhankar received the Best Marathi Actress award and Komal Bora was felicitated with the Ms Wheelchair India Award.
