KOLKATA: BJP leader Varun Gandhi will visit Singur on Tuesday to meet farmers who has lost their land for the Tata Nano project, reports our bureau.

“This will be the first visit of a BJP national leader to Singur,” state BJP leader Rahul Sinha said on Thursday. “He will talk to the farmers and try to understand the ground reality. We wanted both the industry and agriculture to grow together. But nothing has happened in Singur and the ruling Trinamool Congress is silent over the land issue. We will try to highlight nationally the frustration and grievances of Singur farmers who had lost their land and are yet to get it back even though Mamata Banerjee’s government is here for more than 27 months.”

Gandhi will attend the BJP state committee meeting on Monday when he will reach Kolkata. “We will try to analyse our electoral performance before Gandhi and explain to him why our party had failed to fare well in the panchayat polls here,” he said.

Apart from attending party meetings and his Singur visit, Gandhi will also visit the Kalighat temple. A press meet has been set for Tuesday before he leaves for Delhi.
