BJP leader LK Advani could start yatra against corruption in October

It may coincide with the birth anniversary of Jaiprakash Narayan. Over a month-long yatra might start from Gujarat and culminate in Delhi.

NEW DELHI: Seeking to bring back memories of JP's "total revolution" against the Indira Gandhi regime more than three decades ago, senior BJP leader LK Advani could begin his yatra against corruption next month.

It may coincide with the birth anniversary of Jaiprakash Narayan. Over a month-long yatra might start from Gujarat and culminate in Delhi, after travelling across the country.

Though the details of the yatra are yet to be finalised, tentative dates and other details were discussed on Sunday, when meetings of the party's core group and office-bearers were held in the Capital. Sources said the party was considering beginning the yatra on October 11.

Advani has been accusing the Congress of re-creating an emergency-like situation, particularly after police action against campaigns launched by Anna Hazare and Ramdev.

While most of the yatra is likely to be on the rath, it could fly down to places like Port Blair and northeast, party sources said. The party decided to appoint Ananth Kumar as convenor of the yatra, which is expected to take a few breaks, including one during Diwali, in its course.

Though Advani has tried to delink the yatra from elections, either assembly or the Lok Sabha in 2014, the yatra will be passing through poll-bound states like Uttar Pradesh.
