Senior BJP leader L K Advani today met Tibetan spiritual leader Dalai Lama and discussed the situation in Tibet.

DHARAMSALA: Senior BJP leader L K Advani today met Tibetan spiritual leader Dalai Lama and discussed the situation in Tibet.

"We discussed the situation in Tibet and the attitude of China," Advani told reporters after the meeting at the Dalai Lama's residence in Mcleodganj.

The meeting was significant as it was held in the backdrop of the Dalai Lama deciding to give up his political duties.

Advani said that he had met the Dalai Lama some time back and "promised him that I will visit Dharamsala to meet him and IPL match provided this opportunity".

Advani, who was accompanied by Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Kumar Dhumal and his daughter, had lunch with the Dalai Lama and the meeting lasted over an hour, spokesperson for the Tibetan "government-in-exile" Chimme Chockyappa told PTI.

"Both the Dalai Lama and Advani are friends and have a lot of respect for each other. Advani had promised to come Dharamsaala to meet him," he said.
