New Delhi: After the Constitution (131st Amendment) Bill, 2026, was defeated in the Lok Sabha on Friday, the BJP leadership decided to launch a nationwide protest against the Opposition parties. BJP president Nitin Nabin held a meeting with senior party leaders to strategize on the issue.

Even before the bill could be put to vote, top BJP leaders were busy holding consultations to corner the Opposition outside the House. Sources told ET that BJP's protests will blame the Opposition for not letting the bill pass. Protests will be held in state capitals, with senior BJP leaders travelling to states to hold press conferences. The party is preparing a list of leaders, especially women, for the purpose.

Immediately after the bill was defeated, NDA women MPs protested outside Parliament's Makar Dwar. Also, a meeting of NDA floor leaders was held and it was decided that BJP allies will participate in protests in their respective states.

BJP feels it's an opportunity to connect with female voters and highlight the work done by the Modi government for women. BJP leaders also told ET that the timing of the bill had nothing to do with assembly elections as the Opposition was claiming. "It was PM Modi's resolve and intent to fulfil the commitment made to women," said a BJP leader involved in planning protests.
