BJP launches 'Mission 84 seats' for assembly polls in Assam slated for 2016

GUWAHATI: Charged up with the accomplishment of mission 272, BJP has announced the launch of mission 84 in Assam for the assembly polls in 2016.

The Saffron party won seven seats in Assam, the best ever performance of the party in the state. The party has started the task of making the blueprint for economic development of the state which it intends to implement in the next two years. It hopes that the blueprint will assist the Saffron party in getting 84 seats out of 126 assembly constituencies.

Congress is in power in the state for third consecutive term and the state is identified as the grand old party’s citadel.

Sudhanshu Mittal, BJP’s election in charge for Assam, while speaking in the party's victory festival in Guwahati on Wednesday said, “In 2016 our target is Congress-free Assam.”

The party has asked the cadres to prepare themselves for the polls and asked its elected MPs to make up a report on how much money has come to Assam in last 13 years and whether this money was properly utilized or not.

Mittal added, “We will work according to the blueprint which will ensure that that in 2016 we have a BJP government in Assam.”

Union Minister of State for Skill Development and Entrepreneurship (Independent Charge), Sarbananda Sonowal, said that his ministry will ensure that the hidden talents of Northeast India are spotted and brought to national level. “I will focus on the empowerment of youths. We will start working for the assembly polls.”

Four times MP from Nagaon Lok Sabha seat, Rajen Gohain, said, “There were days when it was difficult for the BJP in Assam to get even 10 people with them. However, the biggest achievement today is we have two MPs coming from the tea tribe community.”

The tea tribe community has traditionally voted for the Congress.
