ET had reported earlier that under the initiative, the BJP has worked on migrant voters from Bihar in different states. The party has decided to start the outreach during Durga Puja festival.
"There are 40 lakh migrant labourers from West Bengal who are out of the state. The state offers no opportunity for them, and they are being left out. It is our responsibility to reach out to them and take care of their needs," Samik Bhattacharya, West Bengal BJP president told ET.
"During puja, our party will reach out to the Bengali community across the country." Bhattacharya added that this is a regular process.
However, with elections in mind and the recent incidents of West Bengal workers being harassed in different cities, the BJP finds it opportune to establish a contact with migrants across the country.
Sources told ET that the outreach will begin in around 20 states with a special focus on cities which have more than 25,000 Bengali population. Around 100 districts with a sizable Bengali migrant population are also on the list. A list of Durga puja committees has also been prepared and, by next week, party leaders will complete the meetings with the committees.
BJP leaders from Bengal will also be asked to join the drive and attend such programmes.
