BJP-JDS set deadline for Governor

Pushing for their second term in Karnataka, the BJP-JDS combine on Tuesday urged the Governor to invite them to form a government by this evening, failing which, they threatened to launch a state-wide agitation.

BANGALORE: Pushing for their second term in Karnataka, the BJP-JDS combine on Tuesday urged the Governor to invite them to form a government by this evening, failing which, they threatened to launch a state-wide agitation and a march to Raj Bhavan from tomorrow.

"If the Governor fails to invite us to form the government by this evening, both parties will launch 'Raj Bhavan chalo' and a state wide agitation," state unit presidents of BJP and JDS, D V Sadanada Gowda and Merajuddin Patel respectively, announced at a press conference here.

Gowda said he wrote another letter to Thakur pointing out that the combine enjoyed a clear majority of 129 legislators in the 224-member state assembly.

He also drew the Governor's attention to his recent statements made in Delhi that there was scope for formation of a government if any party approached him.

Gowda alleged that the Congress was trying to block formation of the BJP-JDS government in an obvious reference to that party's demand for dissolution of the state assembly.

The BJP had yesterday set a 24-hour deadline for the Governor to decide on inviting the party to form the government and had threatened to launch an agitation from October 31, if he failed to do so.
