BJP is hopeful that some more members will switch sides and that the party will increase its tally to 12 or 13 members.
Guwahati: BJP increased its tally in the sixth schedule, Bodoland territorial council (BTC) to 11 as a member of Bodoland People’s Front (BPF) left the party and joined the Saffron party.

BJP and United People’s Party Liberal (UPPL), supported by Gana Suraksha Party (GSP), formed the government of council on Tuesday. Lone congress MLA left the party and joined BJP.

Elections to 40 member councils were held in two phases on December 7 and 10. The elections have resulted in fractured mandate with the ruling Bodoland People’s Front (BPF) winning only 17 seats.


BJP won nine seats and UUPL emerged victorious from 12 seats. For the majority 21 seats are required. Gana Suraksha Party (GSP) won one seat.

On Wednesday a member of BPF left the party and joined BJP. Both the BPF and three party coalitions are keeping close watch on their members. The ruling coalition has kept its members in Guwahati fearing poaching.

Promod Boro, the new chief executive member however denied that members are kept in Guwahati following threat of poaching.
