GUWAHATI: BJP in Assam is roping in former student leaders to deepen its reach among different communities. The saffron party is making attempts to increase its presence among the youth.

Recently, Manoj Baruah former president of Asom Jatiyatabadi Yuba Chhatra Parishad (AJYCP), a student organization, joined BJP. Jagdish Bhuyan, former All Assam Students Union (Aasu) leader and former minister in Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) government joined BJP.

Taras Gowla, another top leader of a tea tribe student wing, joined the saffron party.The party is expecting several other students' leaders to join in months ahead. Baruah said that his coming to politics is next step after active involvement in the students' politics.Known as hardcore regionalist, Baruah said: "Regional ideology is not contrary to the national good, rather, they are supplementary to each other.Development of Assam would support the overall development of the country."

Political analyst said BJP is expanding its base in state."The party and its ideological mentor RSS is working among different tribes of the state to establish a base."
