BJP held 'rail roko' protest in Gujarat over fuel hike
Workers of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Wednesday held `rail roko' (stop trains) demonstrations in different cities of the state to protest the recent hike in fuel price.
Hundreds of workers led by Gujarat BJP President Vajubhai Vala squatted on the railway tracks between platform number one and two of Kalupur railway station of Ahmedabad and halted trains for about an hour.
The demonstrators shouted anti-UPA slogans and demanded a rollback in fuel prices.
Workers stopped Jamnagar-Surat intercity express and Ahmedabad-Jammu Tawi express, for over 45 minutes. The workers carrying banners and flags climbed the engine of the train and shouted slogans.
"The fuel hike has badly affected the comman man. This rail roko demonstration is part of BJP's country-wide agitation against the hike," Vala told mediapersons.
"We are stopping the trains so that the UPA government wakes up from its deep slumber," said BJP spokesperson Purshottam Rupala.
Similar demonstrations were also held in other cities including Vadodara, Rajkot and Surat.
