BJP has done penance for opposing civil nuclear deal, says Anand Sharma
“There was nothing for the Modi regime to complete on the larger Indo-US civial nuclear deal since it was done by the Manmohan-Bush pact in 2005," he said.

The formal Congress comment came soon after a four-member Congress delegation comprising Sonia Gandhi, Manmohan Singh, Rahul Gandhi and Anand Sharma held an hour-long meeting with President Barack Obama and his team on Monday.
“The very fact that PM Narendra Modi has completed with President Obama the transformative parts of the Indo-UN civil nuclear deal of the UPA regime has come as an unambiguous admission and assertion by the Mod-led NDA regime that the Manmohan Singh-led UPA regime had pursued and protected the supreme national interests of India”, Sharma asserted, adding, “we are happy on this Republic Day, the Modi government has acknowledged the merit of the UPA regime decision the Indo-US civil nuclear deal. ”
Asked, whether the Congress, therefore, was fully satisfied with the Modi-Obama agreement on the deal, Sharma said, “there was nothing for the Modi regime to complete on the larger Indo-US civial nuclear deal since it was done by the Manmohan-Bush pact in 2005. The Modi regime has completed just the transformative part of the deal since it was delayed solely due to the reckless and unrealistic amendments put up by the then floor leaders of BJP. BJP has now admitted it was a mistake. We are, in principle, supportive of this agreement as it is deal done by our government. Of course, we are waiting to see the finer points of the agreement”
