Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal slammed Prime Minister Narendra Modi over the "free revadi" remark without naming him and alleged that the BJP government had written off loans of rich friends worth '10 lakh crore. He demanded that a law be brought to declare this as treason.

"An environment is being created in the country that the state governments are going bankrupt because they are providing freebies to the aam aadmi (common man)," Kejriwal said on Monday. "They are trying to create an impression that free education in our government schools should be stopped. In the 75th year of India's Independence an impression is being created that giving free treatment to the poor is putting unnecessary financial burden on the government."

Kejriwal questioned the justification for providing free electricity to ministers and not to ordinary citizens. "What is wrong with providing free electricity and free water supply? Providing free electricity to the aam aadmi is a crime but providing free electricity to ministers is OK. Providing free water is a crime. In our Hindu dharma, anyone who had water would open a piyaau to provide free water to the needy. But according to them it is a crime."

The Delhi CM said an atmosphere was being created against welfare service by terming them "freebies". "These people waived off loans of '10 lakh crore of their friends. Such people should be called traitors and investigation carried out against them," he said.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi had cautioned people against what he termed as "a revadi culture" under which votes were being sought promising freebies and said that this could be a dangerous development for the country.
