BJP governments have zero tolerance towards communalism: Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi

NEW DELHI: BJP-led governments at the Centre and in Uttar Pradesh have "zero tolerance" towards communal incidents and action will be taken against the culprits, Union minister Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi said today.

The minister of state for minority affairs made the remarks a day after people from a particular community created a ruckus and damaged a vehicle in UP's Sambhal, alleging a man eloped with a married woman from another faith.

The state also witnessed communal tension on May 5 when members of Dalit and Thakur communities clashed in Saharanpur over playing of loud music during a function commemorating Rajput warrior-king Maharana Pratap.

"We will never tolerate such incidents. Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the state government too have not been soft towards those involved in such incidents. The UP government is taking action," Naqvi said here.

The minister reiterated that there has been a 90 per cent drop in the number of major communal riots in the country since the BJP-led NDA government was formed three years ago.

He, however, did not elaborate on the point.
