BJP for banning politicians facing graft charges from polls

The BJP on Monday said politicians facing corruption charges should be banned from contesting elections.

GHAZIABAD: The BJP on Monday said politicians facing corruption charges should be banned from contesting elections.

"All individuals involved in corruption, black money, misappropriation of assets and criminal activities should be strictly banned from contesting elections," BJP vice-president Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi told mediapersons here.

Naqvi said the Prime Minister Manmohan Singh should call an all-party meeting on electoral reforms.

On the right to recall, he said "it is not practical in our country."

On UP Chief Minister Mayawati favouring reservation for the poor among upper castes, the BJP leader said she befooled Brahmins in the last election.

"Now again she is trying to win election on Brahmins' vote which is not possible."
