BJP flays Yadav's induction into ministry

NEW DELHI: The main opposition BJP on Tuesday flayed Prime Minister Manmohan Singh for inducting RJD leader Jai Prakash Narain Yadav as a Minister of State, alleging that the move amounted to "criminalisation of the government".

Senior BJP leader Vijay Kumar recalled that Yadav had to quit as Union Minister earlier after he was declared an "absconder" by the police investigating his alleged involvement in the release of his brother from police custody in Bihar.

"It is the prerogative of the Prime Minister to choose his council of ministers, but as far as Yadav is concerned, his induction as a Minister of State amounts to criminalisation of government as he is a man with criminal record," he said.

Also, Malhotra, the deputy leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha, asked Defence Minister Pranab Mukherjee explain to the nation what moves the ruling UPA has taken to identify and burst ISI modules in the country.

"He has admitted the ISI's penetration into the armed forces, but he must explain to the nation how it could happen. He must explain to the country why the government failed to prevent it," the BJP leader said.

In his comments yesterday, Mukherjee spoke about internal probes into the extent of the ISI's penetration into the armed forces.

The BJP leader insisted that Mukherjee's remarks have raised serious questions over the proposed joint anti-terror mechanism with Pakistan.
