BJP flays Centre for 'bungling' issues

Charging the Centre with "bungling" of various issues, including the Amarnath land row, senior BJP leader M Venkaiah Naidu on Saturday termed Prime Minister Manmohan Singh's I- Day message as an "election-oriented populist speech."

CHENNAI : Charging the Centre with "bungling" of various issues, including the Amarnath land row, senior BJP leader M Venkaiah Naidu on Saturday termed Prime Minister Manmohan Singh's Independence Day message as an "election-oriented populist speech."

Singh had called for talks to resolve the Jammu and Kashmir crisis and warned against "divisive politics" on the issue.

"It was the Congress (coalition government) which first allotted the land and later revoked the order," he said adding Singh's statements smacked of "duplicity and deception."

"In fact, it is the Congress which is practising divisive politics, especially by providing religion-based reservation," the former BJP President told reporters here.

The Centre had "bungled up" each and every front, including economy, agriculture and internal security. Inflation is at its worst in the country at about 13 per cent.

"Though the National Security Advisor (NSA) has disclosed there are 800 terror cells in the country, there is no plan declared by the government to tackle terrorism," he said.

Citing a recent Assam High Court observation that the growing infiltration of Bangladeshi migrants into the state could one day make them outnumber the native Assamese, Naidu said such problems were not being attended to by the Centre.
