BJP fields Poonam Mahajan against Priya Dutt
Mumbai’s North-West constituency is possibly headed for a clash between two daughters: BJP’s Poonam Mahajan to take on two-time Congress MP Priya Dutt.

The party even wanted to give the ticket to city BJP chief Ashish Shelar, who in turn, proposed the name of Mohit Kamboj, a businessman who recently joined the party. BJP, for a long time, didn’t want to field Poonam, who was very keen to fight Priya. She had earlier sought a ticket from the Mumbai North East, which was eventually given to BJP leader Kirit Somaiya, who had earlier contested from the same constituency.
With nothing left, Poonam wanted to fight from the Mumbai North West constituency, but the party wanted Kamboj, a political rookie.
However, after some last-minute lobbying by her uncle Gopinath Munde, Poonam got the ticket. On Saturday night, BJP had finalized the name of Kamboj, which was turned down by the party bosses on Sunday. BJP will formally announce the name of Poonam in the next couple of days.
The battle between the two daughters will be interesting, given that both are trying to carry their father’s legacy forward.
