BJP feels snap poll's around the corner
The UPA and the Left may have succeeded in buying some time on the nuclear deal, but the country is heading towards a snap poll, feels the BJP.
A day after the government announced the formation of a committee, comprising members of the UPA and the Left, to look into the deal, the BJP convened a meeting of its senior leaders, including the general secretaries, to do a stock-taking of the emerging political situation.
The mechanism, the BJP leaders feel, could only delay the inevitable — a parting of ways of the UPA and the Left. Relations between the Congress and the Left had become so strained that it was only a matter of time before it snapped, the BJP feels.
"This government will not survive for long, notwithstanding the formation of the committee to examine the 123 Agreement and associated US laws," BJP general secretary Arun Jaitley told newspersons after the meeting, which lasted an hour-and-a-half.
