Guwahati: BJP has expressed serious concern over a threatening poster found at Araimile in West Garo Hills, which reportedly targeted the indigenous Garo community.

Poster has surfaced in Tura purportedly from the global terror group ISIS-K threatening the indigenous Garo community.

BJP is a part of the ruling coalition in Meghalaya. The State BJP has expressed serious concern over a threatening poster found at Araimile in West Garo Hills, which reportedly targeted the indigenous Garo community.

The party urged the government to take swift action to identify and arrest those responsible. It also appealed to citizens to remain vigilant and cooperate with authorities to maintain communal harmony.

Police in West Garo Hills have launched a high-level investigation into what they describe as a “deliberate attempt” to incite communal violence.

The poster, found on Wednesday near the Tura Law College at Araimile.

This has come at a time when on January 9 ACHIK activist Dilseng Sangma in Goalgaon was killed. While the “ISIS-K” branding is viewed by security experts as a potential threat, the timing of the provocation has put the state’s security apparatus on high alert to prevent a communal breakdown.

The Confederation of Meghalaya Social Organisation (CoMSO) has petitioned the Prime Minister, Union Home Minister, and the Chief Minister, demanding a central-level investigation. The group argued that even if the poster is a hoax, it constitutes a “direct threat to internal security and sovereignty.”

“The use of a globally recognized terrorist organization’s name cannot be treated lightly,” CoMSO stated. “Even if fabricated, such threats amount to psychological warfare and sedition, intended to test the preparedness of Indian security agencies in a sensitive border state.”
