BJP expresses concern over development in Kashmir

BJP on Sunday renewed its blame of the prevailing situation in the state on the "appeasement policy" of the Congress-led UPA government.

JAMMU: In a fresh tirade against the Centre over the development in the Valley, BJP on Sunday renewed its blame of the prevailing situation in the state on the "appeasement policy" of the Congress-led UPA government and Governor N N Vohra.

"We are concerned over the unfolding of developments in the Valley.

"There exists no government worth its name in Kashmir and the prevailing situation in the Valley is the result of the appeasement policy being pursued by UPA at the Centre and Vohra, whose statements have simply served to embolden the Kashmiri extremists and further enraged the already rather angry and alienated people of Jammu," BJP state Vice-President and spokesman Hari Om told reporters here.

"The administration in Kashmir has been, it appears, taken over by the extremists, with the authorities either watching the disturbing developments and anti-national activities as mute spectators or with some of them extending overt and covert support to the right wing Islamists so that they could accomplish their ulterior designs to destroy all the Indian symbols in the Valley," Om said.

The BJP spokesman claimed that his statements were not a figment of imagination but based on hard "realities".

In this connection, he referred to the "deportation" of over 500 Hindu employees from Kashmir working in the civil secretariat for "security reasons".

"The employees were deported in the intervening night of August 13-14 using the SRTC buses" he said, "and that this shows the extent to which things have deteriorated in Kashmir".
