BJP emerges as largest party in Maharashtra zilla parishad, panchayat samiti polls

Mumbai: BJP on Monday emerged as the largest party in Maharashtra's zilla parishad and panchayat samiti polls. BJP won seven out of 12 zilla parishads while Shiv Sena and NCP managed to win two each. NCP(SP) has won one zilla parishad.

In panchayat samiti polls, BJP won 51 out of 125 samitis while Shiv sena and NCP won 26 and 25, respectively. NCP and Congress managed to win eight each and Uddhav Balasaheb Thackeray Sena won five.

"When we won in 2014 (assembly), there was a myth that BJP was just winning in urban or semiurban regions. In 2017 (ZP and panchayat samiti polls), we proved this wrong by doing well and in 2026, we have established that BJP is the number one party in urban, semiurban and rural areas," said CM Devendra Fadnavis.
