"On July 8, on the day of panchayat elections, a woman candidate of the gram sabha was stripped naked inside the booth in Panchla and people misbehaved with her," BJP MP Locket Chatterjee told media persons during a press conference at the party headquarters in Delhi. "But there is no video because everyone who was present there had guns in their hands."
Addressing the conference, BJP West Bengal president Sukanta Majumdar said the recently held panchayat elections in the state were nothing but a shameful phase of violence and atrocities against women.
"Manipur incident is highly unfortunate; we condemn it. Is the incident of Dakshin Panchla in West Bengal less grave than that of Manipur? The only difference is that it doesn't have a video," Majumdar told media persons.
Immediately after the address by West Bengal leaders, Union minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat and BJP general secretary in-charge of Rajasthan Arun Singh addressed the media and levelled allegations of increasing crimes against women in Rajasthan. "In the calm and peaceful state of Rajasthan, one million criminal cases were registered in the last four and a half years. According to NCRB (National Crime Records Bureau) data, Rajasthan has become the number one state in the country in crime against women," Shekhawat told media persons.
