BANGALORE: Seeking to gloss over the reported spurt of dissidence within the BJP, senior party leader and spokesman V Dhananjya Kumar said national general secretary Ananth Kumar was 100% with the party and had never revolted against Karnataka chief minister B S Yeddyurappa.

You will see him (Ananth Kumar) participate in a function for inauguration of state election office on Saturday along with Yeddyurappa, state party chief D V Sadananda Gowda and senior national leader Venkaiah Naidu, he said, indicating the party was likely to expel former union minister Basanagouda Patil Yatnal, a prominent Lingayat leader of Bijapur, for publicly criticising the chief minister and launching a tirade against the selection of B Y Raghavendra as the candidate for Shimoga.

The state unit has sent a detailed report on Yatnals anti-party activities to the central leadership, which will take appropriate action for expulsion after finalisation of the names of remaining eight candidates for contesting in the Lok Sabha polls.

Some differences of opinion were inevitable in a political party, the spokesman said, adding all leaders would work together for the success of the candidates after finalisation of the choice. Raghavendras choice was unanimous and no leader from Shimoga, including several prominent contenders for the ticket, had raised any objection, he said, pointing out that there was no need to attach too much importance to hasty comments made by leaders from Bidar, Hassan, Tumkur or some other districts.

The BJP leader mentioned that the chief minister had already met senior party leaders like S Mallikarjunaiah and B B Shivappa and convinced them about the rationale behind the selection of candidates. Both leaders have agreed to work for the success of the chosen candidates to ensure L K Advani becomes the prime minister, he said, pointing out that there was no need to take serious note of the comments made by Rajya Sabha member K B Shanappa. He will also come round, Dhananjaya Kumar said.

There is no dissidence within the party. We are all united. Already, the names of 20 candidates out of the 28 seats have been announced and candidates for the remaining eight seats will be finalised on Saturday in the state election committee in which Naidu, Yeddyurappa, Gowda and Ananth Kumar will participate, he said.

The spokesman felt the party was not worried over the reported moves of Congress to field former chief minister S M Krishna from Bangalore south against Ananth Kumar. We cannot comment on the decisions of other parties. But we will work unitedly for the victory of our candidates, he added.
