BJP defers to release UP candidate list
BJP deferred its decision to release its list of candidates for UP in the general elections.
"The Central Election Committee(CEC) which met here on Saturday postponed the announcement of candidates for Uttar Pradesh to the next meeting. The decision is likely by this month end," party spokesperson Prakash Javadekar said here on Saturday.
Sources said the party high-command feels that the alliance between Congress and SP may have a major bearing on the results.
It has been suggested by the Central leaders to wait till a final picture of alliance evolves, specially between the Congress, SP and RLD, the sources said.
"The candidates in Uttar Pradesh are yet to be finalised, the state unit has been asked to complete its last minute scrutiny," Javadekar said.
The Central Election Committe which met here today under the leadership of party president Rajnath Singh and senior leader L K Advani is understood to have deliberated in detail about the winning equations in the politically crucial state which sends 80 MPs to the Lok Sabha.
Meanwhile, the party today announced candidates for two seats in Arunachal Pradesh.
Sitting MPs Kiren Rijuju (West Arunachal) and Tapir Gao (East Arunachal) were named as the party's candidates.
