BJP criticising devolution of power to municipality

BJP today criticized the Arunachal Pradesh government for its recent cabinet decision to go for partial devolution of powers.

ITANAGAR: BJP today criticized the Arunachal Pradesh government for its recent cabinet decision to go for partial devolution of powers to the maiden Itanagar municipality.

The state government's decision to approve eight functions for the municipalities was partial and half-hearted in spite of the existence of an Act and a manual framed by the state legislative assembly in this regard, the party said in a statement.

The party said the cabinet decision also ignored the rural local bodies and termed the whole process as "gross injustice to the local government and curtailment of the local bodies' rights and duties."

It also expressed shock over the cabinet decision to implement the National Food Security Ordinance (NFSO) "without constituting the state food security commission or holding fresh surveys of BPL and APL beneficiaries across the state."

"The sudden implementation of the NFSO is only aimed at covering up the multi-crore PDS scam in the state," it said.
