NEW DELHI: BJP today said the loss of life in ceasefire violations by Pakistan was condemnable and the onus of complying with the Ufa joint statement lay with the neighbouring country.

"There is no two ways about it. It is condemnable. Any life lost on the Indian side is unacceptable," BJP secretary Siddharth Nath Singh said.

Singh, however, said India had succeeded in making the Indo-Pak dialogue "terrorism-specific".

"Now it is for Pakistan to comply with and honour the joint statement... India is waiting and the onus lies with Pakistan," he said.

Asked about the ceasefire violations, he said the government was seized of the matter and was competent enough to reply the way India needed to reply.

Congress has dubbed as a "historic blunder" the joint statement following talks Prime Minister Narendra Modi had with his Pakistani counterpart Nawaz Sharifin Russia.
