KOLKATA: A high-level BJP delegation on Wednesday met West Bengal Governor KN Tripathi to complain that the law and order situation in the state had collapsed and even police were also being subjected to attacks and sometimes murders.

The delegation, led by Anil Jain, national general secretary of the party, has urged Tripathi to pressure the Trinamool Congress administration to restore law and order in the state and ensure proper policing before the October 3 civic polls.

Others in the delegation included Siddharth Nath Singh, Suresh Pujari, both national secretaries, and state unit president Rahul Sinha. Lone BJP legislator Shamik Bhattacharjee also took part.

“You are very well aware of kidnapping of women, trafficking, molestation, rape and murder all over West Bengal and as most of the acts are conducted by Trinamool Congress cadres, the police were forced to remain a mute spectator in most of the cases.

The entire law and order situation of our state has collapsed. The police were mercilessly beaten, shot at and even murdered in broad daylight, but cases were framed in such a way that no culprit is either arrested or given a lighter CrPC (criminal procedure code) so that they get bail unopposed," the delegation told the governor on Wednesday.

The party had also referred to two recent incidents in which two minor girls were subjected to sexual abuse. “Let us mention two recent incidents: First is that of a 14 year-old girl, kidnapped from Mograhat twice this year.Once in February for 20 days and again on May 4.

The girl was rescued on July 20 following a sit-in by our president and others in front of the Mograhat police station for five days. A BJP parliamentary delegation and chairperson of the National Commission for Women also visited Mograhat.

Second is about another a 14-year-old, from Kalna in Burdwan. She was abducted on July 12. And in both the cases the alleged abductors belong to the ruling party," the delegation said.
