BJP calls for stable government in Jharkhand

PATNA: BJP officially launched its campaign for the upcoming Jharkhand assembly elections with president Amit Shah and Finance Minister Arun Jaitley releasing its manifesto and urging people to vote for a one-party government and political stability.

“We have seen how Jharkhand, despite endowed with nature’s bounty, could not realise its potential because there was lack of political stability,” Jaitley said. “It’s high time the people changed their voting behaviour so that a one-party government is formed in the state.”

In 14 years of its existence as a state, Jharkhand has had nine government and five chief ministers, which has impacted its growth and development. Speaking on the occasion, Shah said the people of Jharkhand will give a decisive mandate to the BJP, after having seen the performance of the Narendra Modi government at the Centre.

The five-phase Jharkhand assembly polls will begin on November 25. It’s a three-way contest between the ruling Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM), BJP and the Congress- RJD-JD(U) combine.

BJP is looking to add to its recent election sweeps under Modi. After the emphatic win in the general elections, the party managed to install its first ever chief ministers in both Maharashtra and Haryana last month after comfortable wins in assembly elections.

According to BJP leaders, while JMM is handicapped by anti-incumbency factor, the Congress- RJD-JD(U) combine can only form a coalition government, which they said is no longer acceptable to the people.
