New Delhi: More than three dozen BJP MLAs and MLCs from the Brahmin community gathered at the residence of Uttar Pradesh MLA PN Pathak on Tuesday evening for an informal "Sehbhoj" (community dinner), triggering political chatter within the party. The meeting was held on the sidelines of the ongoing winter session and is being seen as a subtle signal amid speculation over a cabinet reshuffle and the reconstitution of the BJP's Uttar Pradesh unit.

Legislators from across regions, including Purvanchal and Bundelkhand, attended the dinner. Among those present were Ratnakar Mishra, Prakash Dwivedi, Shalabh Mani Tripathi, Ankur Raj Tiwari, Vinay Dwivedi, Rishi Tiwari, Vivekanand Pandey and Kailashnath Shukla.

Pathak described the gathering as social in nature. "This was a simple get-together to strengthen community ties and discuss cultural initiatives. Politics was not the purpose," he said. Ratnakar Mishra added that such interactions help legislators connect on issues of social welfare and exchange viewpoints.

The Brahmin meet follows a series of caste-based interactions involving BJP legislators earlier this year, held on the sidelines of the monsoon session of the state assembly.

On August 11, Thakur (Kshatriya) MLAs first met at Hotel Clarks Awadh in Lucknow under the banner of "Kutumb Parivar", organised by BJP MLA Ramvir Singh from Kundarki. The next day, August 12, tourism minister Jaiveer Singh hosted a similar Thakur legislators' meeting at Hotel Gomti. On August 13, Kurmi MLAs held a meeting centred on remembering Sardar Patel, attended by state ministers Rakesh Sachan and Ashish Patel of Apna Dal.

With the Uttar Pradesh assembly elections scheduled for 2027, these caste-based meetings highlight a long-standing feature of BJP's internal politics in the state, where caste networks intersect with party strategy.

While chief minister Yogi Adityanath remains the party's central figure, such gatherings play a significant role in shaping internal negotiations and electoral planning well ahead of the polls.
