BJP-backed VP Singh govt ignored Rajiv Gandhi’s safety: Ahmed Patel

NEW DELHI: The Congress has slammed Modi and BJP for their “cowardice” and for “abusing a martyred PM”.

Congress’ Ahmed Patel alleged the BJP backed VP Singh government had refused to provide adequate security for Rajiv Gandhi and claimed the former PM lost his life — in a suicide bomb attack on May 21, 1991 — because of their “hatred.”

“Abusing a martyred prime minster is the sign of ultimate cowardice. But who is responsible for his assassination? BJP backed VP Singh govt refused to provide him with additional security and left him with one PSO despite credible intelligence inputs and repeated requests,” Patel said on Twitter on Thursday. “Rajiv ji lost his life due to their hatred and is no longer here amongst us to answer the baseless allegations and abuses which are being unleashed on him.”


Congress leader Abhishek Singhvi said: “Howsoever much the ‘Bahut Jhoot (numerous lies) Party’ tries to spread disinformation, the people of India.
