BJP-backed candidate, Asha Lkra wins Ranchi mayoral polls

RANCHI: Asha Lakra today won the mayoral elections for Ranchi defeating her nearest rival Naveen Lakra by 14,969 votes. Ranchi Deputy Commissioner Vinay Choubey announced the result and said a total of 2,922 voters preferred NOTA (none of the above). The elections were held on June 23 with a mere 17.72 per cent polling.

Asha was supported by the BJP while Naveen was backed by Trinamool Congress though it was a non-political election with separate symbols being allotted to all 14 candidates in the fray. Former mayor and Congress-backed Rama Khalkho finished fourth.
