BJP asks Manmohan Singh to speak on saffron terror

After the former prime minister had urged Narendra Modi to speak out on recent rape cases, the BJP hit back, challenging Manmohan Singh to address Rahul Gandhi’s remarks on saffron terror.

Manmohan Singh had said that the PM should talk about the Unnao and Kathua rape cases.
BJP has countered former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh’s remarks that Narendra Modi should follow his own advice and speak on Kathua and Unnao issues, saying he not only speaks but is also heard even at the international fora.

BJP also asked Singh to speak on saffron terror and Rahul Gandhi’s alleged assertion that it is more dangerous than LeT.

Law Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad told ET, “Prime Minister Modi has already strongly and effectively conveyed that the incidents of Kathua and Unnao are unfortunate, shameful and inhuman and has further assured that justice shall be done and it is our collective responsibility.”

“Unlike you, Dr Singh, Modi is heard and action taken,” he added.

Prasad emphasised that in the Kathua incident, two BJP ministers have resigned while in Unnao, the MLA has been arrested.

“Mr Modi’s voice is also heard globally and only yesterday in Stockholm, the Swedish PM said India is a global power and voice of Modi is significant for resolving global issues,” he said.

BJP also raked up the saffron terror issue and asked Singh why he had stayed mum when his ministers P Chidambaram and Shinde “raised the bogey” for political gains.

“Rahul Gandhi had told US Ambassador Timothy Roemer that Hindu terror and radical elements are more dangerous than LeT and yet you kept quiet. Now will you offer an apology?” Prasad asked.
