BJP and CPM responsible for recent political murders: UDF

KOCHI: The Congress-led United Democratic Front ( UDF) has held both BJP and CPM responsible for the continued violence in Kannur.

KPCC president VM Sudheeran said both BJP and CPM should stop encouraging violence in the region. The two parties should take the initiative to restore peace in Kannur, he said.

Earlier, opposition leader Ramesh Chennithala alleged that it is not Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan, who is handling the home department, but CPM leader P Jayarajan, who is controlling the police in Kannur. He said that P Jayarajan is encouraging violence in the region. The CM is not taking the violence in Kannur seriously, he said.

Replying to the opposition leader's charges, Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan said in the assembly that political reasons were behind the murders that occurred in Kannur.
