BJP ally Tripura Indigenous People’s Front's MLA resigns from assembly

IPFT legislator Brishaketu Debbarma has cited personal reasons for the resignation. In the 60 member assembly now IPFT is reduced to six MLAs while BJP has 36 members.

Triggering political speculation, an MLA of BJP allies in Tripura Indigenous People’s Front of Tripura (IPFT) has resigned from assembly.

IPFT legislator Brishaketu Debbarma has cited personal reasons for the resignation. In the 60 member assembly now IPFT is reduced to six MLAs while BJP has 36 members.

Brishaketu Debbarma won from Simma seat in 2018. He sent resignation letters to speaker with copies marked to party president and Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb.


There is speculation that Debbarma may join newly floated 'TIPRA Motha', which in power in Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC).
